The Heart of Racing Daytona

Daytona, FL – Jan 31, 2022

IMSA kicked off the 2022 season of the IMSA SportsCar Championship this past weekend with the 60th running of the 24 Hours at Daytona race. With the Heart of Racing team, Roman competed in the GTD class under the #27 car with fellow teammates Tom Gambe, Darren Turner, and Ian James.

Leading up to race weekend, the team had a rough go of the qualifying rounds with technical challenges at the Roar Before the 24. Despite that, Roman and the rest of the #27 car team successfully finished the entire 24 hours of the race and ended up with a 9th place finish. As they neared the end of the first day of sunlight racing, the team was running in 5th place. Unfortunately, a part failure during the night portion of the race resulted in the loss of a few laps, but the team was able to get the car back on the track to finish. Although the result was not what the team had hoped for going into the weekend, it showed the teams ability to fight through adversity and persevere in a difficult situation.

Roman and the team feel good about starting the season and the work they have planned leading up to their next race. Next up for Roman and the team is the 2022 Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, from March 16th to 19th.
