VIR Podium

Alton, VA – August 28, 2022

Roman De Angelis, Maxime Martin and the Heart of Racing Team put together another great race with a second-place finish at the Michelin GT Challenge at Virginia International Raceway this past weekend. The points gained from this result have propelled De Angelis into the top spot of the GTD drivers’ standings over Stevan McAleer, with only one race remaining on the calendar.

The #27 car started the race in the 11th position and made its way up the field, and at one point, the team found itself in the overall race lead. De Angelis and Martin kept the car near the front for most of the race but were eventually passed for the lead in the GTD class by the #57 Mercedes because they were on a fuel-conserving strategy trying to make it to the end of the race. Nevertheless, the second-place finish in class and fourth overall was still an excellent result and has given De Angelis a 45-point lead over his closest competitor in the GTD Drivers Standings.

De Angelis and the Heart of Racing Team will look to secure their first overall IMSA Drivers championship at Motul Petit Le Mans at Road America on October 1st.
