February 1, 2021 – Daytona Beach, Fl
It was a strong start to the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship for Roman De Angelis and The Heart of Racing team at the 24 Hours of Daytona. Roman and his teammates Ian James, Ross Gunn, and Darren Turner were able to secure a fifth-place finish in the GT class, putting them in a great position in the points standings to start the year.
The team avoided any racing incidents and worked through some minor mechanical issues to keep a solid pace throughout the 24 hours of racing in their Aston Martin Vantage. Roman took the wheel for his first of multiple stints in the 7:40 pm – 9:40 pm slot for the team, where they were able to move up to the lead at around the 7 hour mark. The team also showed good pace later in the race when they fought back from being a lap down to finish on the lead lap.
Roman and The Heart of Racing Team look to continue their push up the IMSA GTD class standings after last years strong finish to the year and this weekends results at Daytona. The team’s next stop will be the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring from March 17 – 20.
