Roman De Angelis and The Heart of Racing Team were in California this past weekend for the IMSA Grand Prix of Long Beach. De Angelis teamed up with Spencer Pumpelly for the first time in the Aston Martin Vantage GT3.
The weekend began with two practice sessions on Friday before qualifying later that afternoon. In qualifying, De Angelis placed the car in fourth place in the GTD class, securing a second-row starting position.
In Saturday’s race, De Angelis started behind the wheel and maintained his position off the start. He then executed a pass for third position on lap 23. After a strong stint, De Angelis handed over the car to Pumpelly. Unfortunately, contact with another GTD car on lap 52 led to suspension damage, prompting the team to make the decision to retire the car.
Despite the disappointing end, the weekend started on a promising note for De Angelis and the team. Undeterred, they are already setting their sights on the next challenge, aiming to make a strong comeback at Raceway Laguna Seca, May 10th to 12th, and climb up the IMSA standings.
