Monterey, CA

Roman De Angelis claimed his 10th victory in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA this weekend at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. It was Roman's first time racing at the Monterey circuit, but that didn't stop him and his Kelly-Moss Racing team from having a solid weekend. After all was said and done, Roman ended the weekend with a second-place finish in Saturday's race and a first-place finish on Sunday. In Saturday's race Roman was able to take a first lap lead but unfortunately was passed with 19 minutes left in the race. He was then able to hold off a late surge by the number 53 car to hold on for a second-place finish. Sunday's race saw Roman pass the number 7 car of Max Root for the lead with only 10 minutes left in the race. He was then able to pull away before an incident on the track which resulted in a full-course caution. The race eventually ended under caution giving De Angelis his 10th victory of the series.

I think coming into the weekend on the back foot with never being here before, as well as the team not having any experience here with the new cup car, we knew it wasn’t going to be easy. Qualifying went ok, I made a mistake on my quick lap that lost us pole, but race 1 we managed to struggle through our low race pace to lead almost half of the race and finish second. The team did an amazing job Saturday night turning the car upside down for race 2 where we won. We go into road Atlanta with a 58 point lead, so championship hopes are really high for us but it’s not over until the flag in race 2.

After not being able to clinch the top spot in the last three races, Sunday's result was essential to De Angelis to regain his winning momentum. Now he holds a 58 point lead in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama Series and looks to clinch the title at Road Atlanta in October.Roman is back racing in the Porsche GT3 Cup Canada series for Mark Motors Racing this coming weekend at the Circuit Mont-Tremblant in Quebec. The race weekend, which is the final one in the challenge runs from the 27th to 29th. Be sure to follow him on social to keep up with all the latest from the track.
