Roman De Angelis and Marco Sorensen were back in the #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage in Monterey, California, for the fourth race on the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season. The two-hour and 40-minute race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca was the second of seven sprint cup races on the calendar.De Angelis and Sorensen started the weekend strongly in qualifying with a second-position finish in the GTD class after a 1:24.647 fastest lap by De Angelis. Unfortunately, the race did not go as planned, and De Angelis and Sorensen crossed the line in eighth place. Nevertheless, despite the less-than-stellar finishing position, De Angelis and Sorenson finished two spots ahead of the #1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 to take over the lead in the IMSA Sprint Cup GTD Standings by a single point.Next up on the IMSA calendar is Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen from June 22nd to 25th at the historic 3.4-mile Watkins Glen International race track.
