In a one hour and 45 minute endurance race with teams running a single or two-driver combination with a required minimum-time pit stop, 16-year-old Roman De Angelis claimed victory.De Angelis won the opening race of the 2018 season, which took place on the annual Roar Before the Rolex 24 weekend at Daytona International Speedway. Driving the No. 4 Ligier JS P3 for ANSA Motorsports, he started the race eighth place and quickly took control of the field. With 53 minutes remaining, and a series of pit stops, he claimed the lead.“I couldn’t be happier,” said De Angelis. “Who knows how many times winning at Daytona could happen, so it’s very exciting.”This win for the opening 2018 season was De Angelis’ first race behind the wheel of a high-downforce prototype race car.In the 2017 season, De Angelis captured the title of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada in the Gold Cup category. In 2018 he's set to move to the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Platinum division in both Canada and the United States. Stay tuned for an official announcement.
