Roman De Angelis and the Heart of Racing team were at Road America for the IMSA Sportscar Weekend this past weekend. De Angelis teamed up with Zacharie Robichon for the first time this season to drive the No. 27 Aston Martin Vantage GTD.
Robichon set the second-fastest time in qualifying on Saturday, putting the duo in a good position going into the weekend. Robichon started behind the wheel of Sunday's race and drove the first 33 laps before handing the car over to De Angelis. De Angelis was running in seventh place after the changeover before he was forced off the track by a GTD Pro car on lap 46. The team decided to bring the #27 back into the pits during a late caution, and De Angelis was able to make some positions back before ultimately crossing the line in the ninth.
"Zach started the race off strong, but it was just a chaotic race for me. I made a mistake early and had some contact, and then struggled a bit with a steering issue. From there, I just had more and more contact. Ultimately in the end I was just cruising, trying to get to the finish. Not ideal, but we'll move on to the next one. Everyone at the Heart of Racing did a great job as always. It just wasn't our day with the 27. Congrats to the 23 guys, hopefully we can be up there again with them at VIR."
De Angelis will be back in action at Road America again this weekend for Heart of Racing in the GT4 America series, where he and Gray Newell will be looking to score a victory.
