Roman De Angelis piloted the #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage to a 7th place finish in GTD class in this past weekend's Roar Before The Rolex 24 at Daytona qualifying. De Angelis was able to get the car into the top half of the grid after a 15-minute qualifying session, allowing the team to start near the front while also having a better opportunity at avoiding any opening lap chaos. The driver lineup for the first race of the 2023 season for the #27 car and Heart of Racing Team will be De Angelis, Marco Sorensen, Ian James and Darren Turner. De Angelis and the team are looking to defend their GTD class championship with a solid start to the season. A slew of technical issues in last year's race ultimately resulted in a ninth-place finish. However, this year the car has looked very consistent throughout practice and qualifying and should allow the team to compete for a victory. The team will have five practice sessions starting Thursday, January 26th, before the 61st running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway kicks off at 1:40 pm on Saturday.
"Qualifying went really well; we're in the top half of the grid, which is really important and a great place to start for the Rolex 24; hopefully far enough forward to dodge the chaos at the beginning. The car delivered a solid qualifying lap, and Ross did a really nice job qualifying second in GTD PRO. Both HOR cars are competitive this year, so we'll see what happens in the race."
