Roman De Angelis

Roman De Angelis has graduated top of the 2021 Aston Martin Racing Drivers’ Academy. In the programme, Roman competed against 14 other drivers worldwide, who were all bidding for the top spot and a chance at financial support and guidance from the factory towards their 2022 race programme. Roman now joins a list of accomplished drivers to hold this honour, such as Tom Canning, 24 Hours of Le Mans class winner Jonny Adam and 2021 teammate Ross Gunn.

De Angelis’ on-track performance from the 2021 IMSA season, where he was a multiple race winner and secured the Sprint Cup Championship with his teammate Ross Gunn allowed him to stand out amongst the other candidates. The programme also looks at how the racers present themselves as drivers and how they engage with their fans and teams, showing that Roman is in the complete package. Judging the competition was head of customer racing at Aston Martin Huw Tasker, four-time British GT champion Jonny Adam, De Angelis’s teammate Gunn and the previous AMR Academy winner Valentin Hasse-Clot.

This opportunity will allow Roman to further accelerate his career trajectory within the Aston Martin Racing family.

“It’s an honour to have been recognised by Aston Martin for my achievements last season,” said De Angelis, “and I’m proud to have been chosen among such an exceptional group of drivers. Graduating from the Academy is a good flag marker for my career, and now it’s important to build on this in 2022 with the Vantage GT3 in IMSA and pay back the faith AMR has placed in me.”
