ROMAN’S NOTES: SPRING RE-CAP GT3 CUP USA

May 17, 2018

It's been a roller coaster first few races of the seasons with up's and downs, but overall the team(s) and I have been able to preserve and near the top of the points charts for the season.Due to an uncontrollable incident that resulted in a less than favourable season opener in Sebring, the Kelly-Moss Road and Race team came together with a massive effort and came back stronger onto rounds 3 and 4 in Alabama. With a tremendous amount of support from our sponsors (Children's of Alabama, Racing for Children's and Medical Properties Trust) we pushed through to win the first race and placed second on Sunday. The weekend's results put us just 3 points shy of first in the overall championship in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA.Travelling to Mid Ohio for the 5th and 6th rounds, we hoped to grab results that would move us into a championship leading position. We qualified in the 3rd spot but in Saturday's race #1 we began to struggle with the pace and fell to 4th. Starting in 4th position for Sundays race #2, we were able to make an early pass for a podium position and a push for the leaders. However, we began to experience power steering failure in the car which resulted in the car slowing and becoming very difficult to drive. Even with the power steering failure, we were able to hold onto the 3rd place position and finish on the podium.Currently, in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA, we're still 2nd in the Championship and with the never-ending work put in by the Kelly-Moss Road and Race team, we hope to be ready for Watkins Glen in a few short weeks. With just a few days before the first Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, we're excited to be joining forces once again with the Mark Motors Racing team for the Canadian series.Roman De Angelis is a 17-year-old racing phenom competing in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA series with Kelly-Moss Road and Race and the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada series with Mark Motors Racing.
