Runner Up In GT4 America

October 7, 2024

Indianapolis, IN

Roman De Angelis and the Heart of Racing team were at Indianapolis Motorspeedway this past weekend for the final stop of the GT4 America season. After a slow start in the first few races, De Angelis, Gray Newell, and the Heart of Racing team turned the season around and finished second in the GT4 America PRO-AM category.

The first race of the weekend did not go as planned, as a flat tire and penalty saw the duo finish 25th overall. In Sunday's race, Newell started behind the wheel in 26th and climbed through the field before handing the car off to De Angelis at the halfway point. De Angelis drove the final stint and continued tearing through the field to an eventual 2nd-place finish while earning the Super Fuel Hard Charger Award.

The second-place finish also put the team in second for the PRO-AM championship with 187 points. The duo battled back from a slow start to the season to finish strong with multiple wins and podium finishes through the later part of the year.

"Today (Sunday) was a bit of a turnaround from Saturday," said De Angelis. "We had a great result today with second in PRO-AM and overall. It was a  really good day for the team. I think  being second in the championship  is always a good thing. Of course we wanted to win, but the No. 7 car  was great all year, so we did what we could. Gray (Newell) did great all season developing as a driver and I look forward to what is in store  for the program next year."
