Roman De Angelis was back in the No. 27 Heart of Racing GTD for the IMSA Weathertech Michelin GT Challenge at VIR this past weekend, scoring another podium finish. Zacharie Robichon joined De Angelis for the weekend in their Aston Martin Vantage.
Heading into the weekend the team felt like they had a strong car and were confident they would fight for a podium spot. In Saturday's qualifying session, Robichon set a lap of 1:44.362s, good enough for a fourth-place starting position.
Robichon started the race and brought the car into second place during his double stint. After lap 57, Robichon turned the car over to De Angelis for the final part of the race. De Angelis maintained their position and crossed the finish line in second place. It was the team's second podium in the IMSA Weathertech GTD season.
"Definitely a good day, Zach and I got our first podium together today," said De Angelis. "It is a good result for us after the kind of year we've had. We'll take a podium anytime we can. The No. 27 crew, myself, Zach, the mechanics, engineers, strategists, they all did a really good job today. Zach did great in the beginning to give me the car in second. I just did what I could from there and tried to try to do what I could with the Mercedes. We just didn't have it today. Super happy to get another podium, and hopefully we can keep this roll going for the rest of the year."
De Angelis will be back racing at Barber Motorsports Park, September 6th to 8th for the penultimate race in the Pirelli GT4 America season.
