Roman De Angelis and Gray Newell were back together for the third Pirelli GT4 America calendar stop at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. This was the only single race weekend of the GT4 schedule, and De Angelis took on qualifying duties for Sunday's race. De Angelis put the No. 24 Aston Martin Vantage in sixth position for the race during Saturday's qualifying session.
Newell started Sunday's race and maintained the team's position before handing the car over to De Angelis at the one-hour mark. De Angelis then put together a terrific stint, which saw him leading before he came in for the second pit stop of the race. Unfortunately, after Newell took back over the car, he was struck by a competitor, causing a flat tire as well as suspension damage. Newell was forced to go into the pits to change tires. De Angelis ultimately finished the race in fifth.
It was not the result the team was hoping for in the double points race but it was a great recovery after being taken out while in the lead. The GT4 team will turn their attention to Virginia International Raceway for rounds 6 and 7 of the GT4 America season, July 19 to 21st.
