Roman De and teammate Gray Newell scored back-to-back podium finishes at Road America in the Pirelli GT4 America series.
De Angelis started the weekend strong in the first qualifying session by putting the car on pole in the PRO-AM category with a lap time of 2:16.342 seconds. Gray Newell took over for the second round of qualifying and put in a time good enough for a 9th in-class starting position in race two.
De Angelis started in the drivers' seat for the first half of race one and worked the #24 Aston Martin Vantage into the overall lead. During the turnover, the team lost a couple of spots, as Newell exited the pits in third position. He was then able to maintain this position and cross the finish line in third place.
Sunday's race saw Newell start in the driver's seat and have a clean stint before handing the car over to De Angelis. After the changeover, a good pit strategy saw the team move to fifth. De Angelis was then able to quickly move through the field and into the PRO-AM lead. After a late caution, De Angelis defended his lead and brought the car across the line for the duo's first victory of the season.
"It was a very good weekend for Gray and myself," said De Angelis. "We had two good results, a third and our first win of the season. We tried a bit of a deviated strategy this weekend, which seemed to work out for us. I had a lot of fun in both races! I'm super happy for the No. 26 car as well, they earned their first Silver podium. Most importantly, Gray and I were able to claw back some points in the championship, and I think we're second now. I'm looking forward to going to Barber in a few weeks, and hopefully we can get another good result. It's such a great track and I'm excited to go back after I think it has been four years since I was there last." over the car to Holland in second. Holland was then able to pass for the lead and bring the car across the finish line in first, completing a weekend sweep for the team.
