Victory in Detroit

June 13, 2021

Detroit, MI

Saturday saw Roman De Angelis and Ross Gunn deliver the first win for The Heart of Racing #23 team since their return to IMSA and Roman's first win in the GTD category. The win was extra sweet as it came close to home for Roman, a Windsor, Ontario native who had grown up attending the Detroit Grand Prix at the Raceway at Belle Isle Park and had always dreamed of winning it.The team started the weekend strong by securing a 3rd place starting grid position in qualifying. Roman started the race and built on that starting position by moving up to second before handing off the car to Gunn. The team crossed the finish line in second after 100 minutes of racing, but following the race's conclusion and the disqualification of the #39 Audi car, Roman and Ross were awarded the victory.

"Woke up as WINNERS OF THE DETROIT GRAND PRIX! My first GTD win and the first win for the Heart of Racing Vantage GT3… The team killed it all weekend…Hopefully the first of many for the team and me."

The strong season continues for Roman and the team, with this being the 4th top 5 finish of the year. The win moves Roman and Ross up to second in the championship standings and the team to third in the manufacturer's standings.Roman and the team will be back in action in two weeks at the Salhlen's Six Hours of the Glen from June 24-27.Also, check out Roman's pre-race interview with the Windsor Star and post-race coverage by CTV News.Keep up with all the action and news with Roman and The Heart of Racing's #23 car by following Roman on social media.
